Tonight, it's the good ol' standby: Johnnie Walker Black Label. One of the best blended Scotch whiskies available. Blended with 42 component whiskies, it has a depth unmatched by its peers.
Anyone else drinking whisk(e)y tonight?

I'm not asking for an apology, nor am I looking for an argument.
Just voicing my opinion that Christians tend to pick and choose which scriptures support their ideas and agendas. The less favorable scriptures get swept under the rug or decried as mistranslated or taken out of context.Take Jesus' miracles, for example. Would it not be reasonable to think that perhaps some of these parables were exaggerated, sensationalized, or even taken out of context?
The Bible is full of contradictions as well as stories that would suggest that God is a hateful, evil, jealous, childish tyrant. I have observed that those who follow the Bible like to excuse their prejudices and behaviors with "because the Bible says so". If that's the case, then why not take it as a whole, following everything it says, rather than just following the teachings that are "cozy"?
I'm not after you as an individual, tec. If you want to be a Christian, so be it. I firmly hold fast to the idea of the right to freedom of religion. I guess I'm just trying to make a different point.
here in the deep south, summer weather (torture) has arrived.
on thursday of this week, the actual temperature will be 101 degrees f. the humidity, as shown in the screenshot below, will be at least 47%.
this equals to a 'feels like' temperature of at least 118 degrees f. .
That looks utterly terrible.
I can't stand the heat. I would much rather be shivering cold than even the least bit hot.
Here in Seattle, it is currently 54. It's predicted to reach a searing 75 by Saturday. I love the Pac NW.

The answer is simple: All of the parables that make God and his followers look awesome are the ones to be taken literally.
It really IS simple.
Christ shows us the Truth about his Father. So if something agrees with His teaching and example, then it is safe to say that it is true about God. If it does not, then it is not true. Perhaps the story is wrong; perhaps the translation is wrong; perhaps the scribes tampered just a bit too much. But very simply, there is no cherry picking. There is only the Truth about God through His Son, the Word of God.

Tammy
Nice copout. Reeaaal nice. Just reinforces the idea that Christians love to pick and choose whichever scriptures to take literally, as long as they fit their agendas. So, same sex marriage is wrong because the Bible says so, but your God never committed genocide because that scripture was mis-translated or taken out of context? How convenient for you.
How do we know that the scriptures that deal with homosexuality weren't mis-translated or taken out of context? Fair question.

Funny how the apologists accuse the creator of this video of "Cherrypicking" the negative parts of the Bible out to prove his point. It's that same old ridiculousargument that all of the evil done by God in the Bible is not to be taken literally, that they are exaggerated tales meant to scare non-believers into submission.
So where does the line start for folks to take things literally? How do we know which parables haven't been exaggerated? The answer is simple: All of the parables that make God and his followers look awesome are the ones to be taken literally.
HYpocrites.

Good grief.
i haven't read the wildly popular books, but i've found the new hbo television series, game of thrones to be quite entertaining.
so far, two episodes have aired, and i think i'm hooked.
there are more than a few interesting characters, both good, bad and in between.
A lot more porn in this one than episodes past.
I'm not complaining. Just an observation.
